System Engineers
With a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering specializing in RF Engineering, Lukas Schmidt started his career with a measurement device manufacturer. This helped develop a strong technical foundation and interest in testing and measurement technologies. Over the past three years at Averna Powered by Spherea, he has built expertise in systems engineering, contributing to the design and integration of many complex test and measurement solutions. Lukas is also passionate about sailing and a variety of watersports, taking any opportunity he can to be on the water. He is also involved in local theater productions and has recently taken up reformer Pilates, embracing new challenges both on and off the stage.
Q: Where were you before Averna Powered by Spherea and how did you get here?
A: Before joining Averna Powered by Spherea, I was studying Electrical Engineering and gained valuable experience working in measurement device manufacturing during my studies. I first became familiar with the company while working as a student and was really interested in the types of technologies they worked and the opportunities it offered. This ultimately led me to join the team.
Q: What attracted you to Test Engineering?
A: Test Engineering has the ability to create tremendous value for customers by helping them better understand and maximize the potential of their existing equipment. I enjoy solving problems that provide meaningful insights and tangible benefits.
Q: What is your favorite aspect of your current role?
A: I love the opportunity to understand customer challenges in depth and then develop complete systems that address those challenges in a clever and innovative way. I find it very rewarding to create solutions that have a direct impact on their success.
Q: Is Test Engineering a more challenging field for an engineer with the range of technologies that must be mastered?
A: I would not say that Test Engineering is more challenging than other engineering disciplines, but it is certainly not any easier. It requires a broad understanding of many technologies, yet it is often overlooked by others who may not fully appreciate its complexity and importance.
Q: Have you had any key mentors or people who deeply influenced who you are, what you believe in and what you’re committed to in your work and life? Tell me about them.
A: My team lead has had an important influence on my professional growth. He consistently encourages me to explore new ideas, gives me the freedom to experiment with different approaches, and supports me in driving meaningful change. That level of trust has helped me take chances and be creative in my work.
Q: Do you feel you achieve a good work/life balance?
A: Yes, I feel that I have a very good work-life balance. The office is conveniently located in the city and within walking distance to where I live, which makes commuting easy. I also enjoy spending time with colleagues after work, whether that means heading to a local rock-climbing gym or getting together for a drink.
Q: What are you most proud of?
A: I am most proud of the system concepts I design and the solutions I help bring to life for customers. Outside of work, I also take pride in pushing myself at the rock-climbing gym and successfully completing the more challenging routes.
Q: What have you learned from Averna Powered by Spherea that will be a takeaway for the rest of your life?
A: One of the lessons I have learned at Averna Powered by Spherea is that the greatest value comes from focusing on the customer and understanding their needs. When customers feel supported and successful, it creates stronger partnerships and makes everyday work much more rewarding.
